The theme for 2021 is ‘Quality and Sustainable Schools: Education from Schools in India’
Education Festival 2021 will be held from 5 to 17 September at the Ministry of Education. The initiative was launched to recognize the contribution of teachers as well as to assist in the implementation of the new National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event at a virtual conference this week. He announced this year’s theme for Education Episode-2021: ‘Quality and Sustainable Schools: School-to-Education in India’, prioritizing initiatives to move forward here.

During the week-long initiative, five key initiatives were launched to advance the NEP 2020 agenda.
The initiative has been launched under Children Episode 2021
- Dictionary of Indian Sign Language – Introduced for hearing impaired children and citizens. It consists of 10,000 words.
- Talking book – Audiobooks are made for the visually impaired.
- School Quality Assessment and Recognition Framework (SQAA)
- The CBSE has developed a School Quality Assessment and Assurance (SQAA) mechanism for comprehensive school evaluation aimed at continuous quality improvement through self-analysis and self-monitoring of quality enhancement processes.
- SQAA is a comprehensive, purposeful, transparent and implementable self-assessment tool benchmarked by the best global standards and enriched with its local needs for educators, leaders, management and all those involved in making a difference in children’s lives.
- This is an assurance of ‘quality’. It highlights the fact that self-assessment as an internal responsibility is intrinsically important in creating a sense of responsibility and ownership.
- Nistha Teacher Training Program for Nipun Bharat
- NISHTHA is the National Initiative for Holistic Advancement of School Heads and Teachers. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 states that ‘Teachers truly shape the future of our children and therefore the future of our nation. We need the motivation and empowerment of teachers to ensure the best possible future for our children and the nation. As per the recommendations of NEP 2020, every teacher and head teacher is expected to participate in at least 50 hours of uninterrupted professional development (CPD) opportunity each year for their own professional development, driven by their own interests.

Although these initiatives hold great potential, academics point out that obstacles still need to be overcome. The meticulous planning, implementation and monitoring of these initiatives will necessarily require higher budget provisions (both at the central and state government levels) and a sincere approach among stakeholders. “
