GitHub has announced the Outdoor Winter Team

It provides students with the opportunity to connect with companies in India through GitHub’s campus program, through fellowship programs, and builds the right skills for future developers to succeed in an enterprise environment.

GitHub has announced GitHub Externships Winter Cohort, as the company continues to support talented student developers in India. This season GitHub has added a new DevSecOps track, with open source, to help college students gain proficiency in deep software development. With the help of partners, projects and consultants, including Deepsource, Appwrite, TigerGraph, Symbl.AI, Hoppscotch, FamPay, Zeeve, Abridged Inc, Leverice, Saraverse, and many more, GitHub Externships will help developers in India nurture talent and empower the next generation. To drive the digital future of the country.

The latest India Skills Report 2021 highlights that 85.92 per cent students are looking for internships to start their careers. Understandably, today’s emerging digital economy requires highly skilled talent, often hands-on experience, to consider its role. With more than one million new engineering graduates in India each year, the industry needs to work together to equip future developers with the skills and experience they need to succeed in the real world.

At GitHub Satellite India 2021, the company announced GitHub Externships to enable college students in India to gain real-world experience of enterprise involvement across the country, as well as collaborate with other GitHub developers on open source projects. It provides students with the opportunity to connect with companies in India through GitHub’s campus program, through fellowship programs, and builds the right skills for future developers to succeed in an enterprise environment. Students are mentored in real-world projects and gain skills in cloud technology, software development methods and, most importantly, software development collaboration. This program really connects the points between open source, next generation software developers and successful companies.

GitHub India General Manager Manish Sharma said, “Students hold a special place in our hearts. They are our next generation developers who will lead the way in software innovation for our digital nation. For this reason, as we continue to support talented student developers in India, we are thrilled to announce GitHub Externships Winter Cohort.

Sharma continued, “The mentors, company representatives and open source maintainers were really impressed by the strength, enthusiasm and commitment shown by the students in our first group. Through the program, participants gain valuable mentoring and hands-on experience, increasing their job prospects. In fact, many institutions have increased pre-placement offers for some students. ”

The first batch this summer received applications from more than 1,300 students from 175 higher education institutions participating in the GitHub campus program. 62 students were selected as GitHub Externs to work with projects and consultants from 18 organizations. Students have gained invaluable learning experience by working on various projects, such as:

– Creating a parser to expedite OpenAPI requests

– Working on winkJS for NLP in node.js

– Creating a custom blockchain consensus algorithm

– Integrate real-live video collaboration platform API development

– Image optimization and cropping algorithms

Applications are now open and students have until 11:59 a.m. IST on December 14, 2021 to apply.
