Goa schools have been allowed to reopen from October 18 for physical classes from 9th to 12th with Covid-19 guidelines and standard operating procedures, an official said on Friday. In a statement issued on Thursday, state education director Bhushan Savaikar said the state government had decided to reopen schools for physical classes after consulting an expert committee.
The department has asked managers and heads of educational institutions to make decisions considering the available infrastructure and local situation, it was said.
“Schools may initially follow a hybrid model of teaching, i.e. online as well as offline classes, if required,” the statement said. Masks, temperature tests and sanitation are mandatory at the entrances of the establishments, and staff should be inspected even before entry, it said.
According to the notification, school events and rallies should not be conducted until further notice. Goa on Thursday recorded 68 cases of Covid-19 and two fatalities, bringing the number of infections to 1,77,356, including 3,335 deaths. The coastal state currently has 679 active cases.
