NEP 2020 is fast approaching implementation stage after one year

The launch of the National Education Policy (NEP) last year was a milestone in Indian education. It is gratifying that the government is working in mission mode to implement the policy and has moved forward with several initiatives within a year of the introduction of the landmark policy.

The government has launched a number of initiatives to advance the policy agenda in areas such as pre-school education, school education evaluation framework, engineering education, bank of credit, internationalization, teacher training, and technology education platforms and programs.

One of the goals of the policy is to bring flexibility in higher education and the introduction of Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) will be an important help in achieving this goal. ABC and complements the ‘Multiple Entry and Exit’ System (MEES) policy. These will give students the freedom to follow the course of their choice at their own convenience, both in time, duration and in an institution of their choice, enabling a culture of continuous learning.

Offering regional language engineering courses is another proactive step to ensure that talented young people who have completed their schooling in regional languages ​​have equal opportunities to realize their dream of studying engineering. To meet the requirements of the course content in Indian language, a technology-capable translation system has been developed.

India was a university to the world many centuries ago. With the publication of guidelines for the internationalization of higher education, it is hoped that Indian institutions will again be able to attract students from all over the world.

Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka are in the forefront of implementing NEP 2020 in the current academic year.
