Design Village Noida has been selected to showcase the Fag collection at the Salon del Mobile Milan Fair in Italy. Of the 300 institutions worldwide, Design Village is one of only two Indian colleges to showcase its collection at the Milan Fair. Fag Hall is a project by Sachin Choyal, a Masters student in Fashion and Textile Design at Design Village.
Fag is a collection that celebrates the festival of Indian colors using textile waste. It draws inspiration from the lively garments worn by artisans and women in the state of Rajasthan. Sachin Jawal has positioned his Masters research around improving the cluster of crafts. What began as a mapping of sustainable practices of pre- and post-consumer textile waste use among rural communities in Haryana, India, developed into a multi-faceted study of sustainability itself.
“My goal is not only to increase the life span of the material which otherwise goes only to landfills but also to make a living for rural weavers especially for women artisans who are not allowed to work outside their homes,” said Sachin Choyal.
