The SOS Children of India Family Strengthening Program (FSP) is a community-based outreach approach that focuses on empowering vulnerable families and communities so that they can take adequate care of their children.
Thomson Press (India) Limited is helping the beneficiaries of the program in Noah and Faridabad districts of Haryana by providing sewing machines, bicycles and water filters, all of which will help empower the community. Sewing machines will help make a living by encouraging income flow, which will empower family caregivers. Bicycles are convenient for traveling long distances in school, thus preventing disruption of learning. Water filters ensure that pure drinking water is essential for health.
As part of the Family Strengthening Program, families / individuals are helped to build sustainable incomes, build their capacity, and provide children with an environment where they are cared for and their basic rights to education, skills, health and nutrition are guaranteed. The program is designed to provide vulnerable children with essential services such as health, nutrition and education.
The FSP has, to date, reached more than 20,000 children and their families in rural and urban slums across India. The goal of this program is to empower families to become self-reliant by ensuring the overall development of their children and building the capacity and income-generating skills of their caregivers.
Thomson has consistently acknowledged the commendable work of NGOs in the press community and child development.
