Newly-appointed Delhi University (DU) vice-chancellor Yogesh Singh has been taking office since Friday, a varsity official said. Singh, who will be the 23rd vice-chancellor of DU, will replace Yogesh Tyagi, who was sacked last October on charges of irregularities and negligence of duty.
Tyagi is the first VC in the history of DU to face such a move. Pro-Vice-Chancellor PC Joshi has held the top post ever since. Singh was serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi Technological University.
Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has approved the Chief Minister’s proposal to remove Yogesh Singh from the post of DTU Vice-Chancellor so that he can join as DU VC, “an official order issued by the Delhi government’s Department of Training and Technical Education said on Wednesday.
Singh was appointed the new Vice-Chancellor of DU in September. Singh was re-appointed as the Vice Chancellor of DTU for a second term in April this year. Previously, he was the Director of Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (2014 to 2017) and also the Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajira University of Baroda (2011 to 2014).
